Intense wildfire on the Eyre Peninsula in January 2005 destroyed bushland in the Koppio Hills – habitat to the only population of Brush-tail Possum in the region.

To assess the survival of the possums and their recovery from the fire, Ecological Associates surveyed bushland on approximately 40 properties. The survey found significant possum survival. Possums with young were observed and possums were found in habitats previously considered unsuitable for the species.

There was significant public interest in the project, particularly from landholders, who provided access and advice and were provided with the results.
