Groundwater Dependence of River Ecosystems

National Land and Water Australia

Groundwater inflows to rivers can be important to ecosystems when they maintain flow between rainfall events and affect salinity. However, the role of groundwater is rarely considered when water resources are planned and allocated. This project will develop and test methods that link ecosystem health to groundwater in rivers. It will establish approaches that can be applied throughout Australian in Environmental Water Requirement investigations.
